学习一门新语言的初期充满了困难和挑战。
当年，我们从初一开始接触英语，上课时老师会反复领读，并且播放磁带给同学们听录音，让大家强化记忆。老师布置家庭作业是，回家以后抄写和朗读，第二天要默写和背诵过关。默写记忆没有问题，但是朗读就遇到了困难，害怕自己回家会忘记单词的读音，于是，在课本的单词下方标注中文，用最接近的读音标识。
其实，开始的单词也很简单，比如：sheep，dog，bee，plane，ship，bus。因为父母不懂英语，所以回家指望不上，家里也没有收录机和磁带。印象比较深的是有同学会把teacher记作“铁锹”，morning记作“猫您”。后来，再学习音标，学习清辅音、浊辅音、重音，记忆单词的发音就容易得多。
日本东京大学语言与脑神经学小组针对15名志愿者的研究发现，大脑中4个与语言相关的区域以及负责记忆的脑区均会在这一阶段被显著激活，令母语和外语能力同时得到大幅提升。
用这个理论不难解释，为什么有些人会学习并掌握几种种甚至几十种语言，何况有些人富有语言天赋。
回想自己，经历了最初的困难期，在高中和大学再学英语就容易多了。记忆的词汇量越大，记忆单词越快，阅读文章的障碍越小，即使遇到很长的单词，也不再觉得英文特别难了。
有一段时间，觉得应该学习下日文，从平假名和片假名学起，先接触日常生活用语。多年以后，已经有些遗忘，加之学习时间短又没有坚持学下去，现在却能记得“椅子”和“花”之类的日文发音，就因为在头脑中找到了对应的中文发音，所以记得特别牢。
儿时，知道父亲曾学过简单的俄语，经常缠着他问什么用俄语怎么说，印象比较很多是俄语中“同志”、“你好”的发音，这些日常会话中的简单表达。并没有看到这些俄文如何拼写，在脑海中却记住了发音。后来，发现俄国人的名字特别长，像两个托尔斯泰的全名，分别是阿列克谢·尼古拉耶维奇·托尔斯泰和列夫·尼古拉耶维奇·托尔斯泰。
现在看来，还是觉得汉语是最优美最实用最高效的语言。其他的语言只是一种工具，需要的时候才想起来，不用的时候束之高阁。

Commemorative coin for Year of the Ox
央行发牛年贺岁纪念币
China's central bank will issue a commemorative coin on Friday to celebrate the coming Chinese zodiac Year of the Ox.
为庆祝即将到来的牛年，中国人民银行定于1月29日发行2021年贺岁普通纪念币一枚。
The round, copper-alloy coin is 27 mm in diameter and has a face value of 10 yuan, said the People's Bank of China. The central bank will issue a total of 150 million such coins.
中国人民银行表示，2021年贺岁普通纪念币面额为10元，直径为27毫米，材质为双色铜合金，发行数量为1.5亿枚。
The front side of the coin shows its face value and the year of issuance, while the reverse side features an ox raising its head.
纪念币正面图案为"10元"字样及年号"2021"，背面主景图案为一头抬头牛造型。
The Year of the Ox is the second zodiac sign in the Chinese zodiac cycle. It will start on Feb 12, 2021 and last until Jan 31, 2022.
